FAQs - Diamonds
The presence of inclusions in a diamond.
Clarity is determined by the visibility, number and size of inclusions in a diamond. Inclusions are natural minerals or fractures appearing whilst the diamond is being formed, and may appear like tiny crystals, clouds or feathers. Diamonds with greater clarity have fewer inclusions, and are consequently more brilliant and valuable. The position of the inclusion can affect the value of a diamond.
The clarity of a diamond is ranked on a scale of perfection established by the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). The clarity scale ranges from F (flawless) to to I (included), based on the visibility of inclusions at a magnification of 10x.
