Choosing a diamond
The internet provides a wealth of information to today's consumer, usually in an unbiased environment, and has made many industries more price-competitive. This is certainly true of the diamond industry. When shopping for a diamond, it is important to become as educated as possible about diamonds and available pricing. However, when it is time to buy, often the best approach is to ask family and friends for a referral to a reputable jeweller that you can trust in making this important purchase.
Daniella specialises in "triple excellent" diamonds - excellent cut, excellent polish and excellent symmetry. These diamonds have the perfect proportions and characteristics which maximises its brilliance.
We recommend the following when choosing the right diamond:
1. Shape
A diamond's shape determines your jewellery's look and feel. Selecting the shape right for you is purely a matter of personal taste, reflecting your individual style. The most popular and traditional choice is the round brilliant cut, whilst many prefer a fancy cut diamond (such as princess, asscher, emerald or pear shaped) for a more unique look.
2. The four Cs
It is important to understand the four Cs - cut, colour, clarity and carat. The interplay of these factors determine a diamond's beauty, rarity and value. Diamonds with the combination of the highest four C gradings are more rare and consequently greater in value. No one C is more important than the other. The factor that is most desirable is purely dependent on individual preference. We recommend a good balance of the four Cs within a given budget.
3. Examination
Seeing is believing. Examine the actual diamond, not just from a picture or the internet. Diamonds with the same specification can face up differently.
4. Certification
Your diamond should be certified by a internationally recognised independent laboratory. All Daniella diamonds, 0.50ct and above comes with a certificate from Gemological Institute of America (GIA).
We have put together this guide as a starting point to understanding diamonds. For further detail, don't hesitate to contact us and speak to our jewellers who will provide guidance in finding the right diamond that best suit your needs.
