The steps below provide a guide to designing a wedding band. The process is essentially the same for both female and male bands. For females, there is the additional consideration of how the wedding band will fit with the engagement ring if chosen to be worn together. Traditionally, the band is worn closest to the heart, and the engagement ring is worn on the same finger next to the band. However, some prefer to wear the rings separately, in which case the wedding band is generally worn on the left ring finger, and the engagement ring is worn on the right.
Step 1: Ring design
The first step is to decide on your preferred style of wedding band.
Step 3: Ring shape
Choose the most suitable shape for your ring based on style and comfort.
You can never go wrong with the traditional plain band.
Include diamonds or gem stones for a unique personal touch.
Step 4: Precious metals
Decide which metal best appeals to you. Choices include platinum, gold (18K, 14K or 9K) in white, yellow or rose. These metals may be combined for two tone effects.
The wedding band may be a matching set with the engagement ring.
Step 2: Ring width
The appropriate width for the ring depends on personal preference, but should also be proportional to an individual's finger.
